Poveglia Island - Most Haunted Place

Poveglia is a small island in Italy. This island has a very dark and sad history. Poveglia island was used as a dumping ground for plague victims when black plague spread throughout Europe. Terrified of the black death the officials of Venice tried to isolate anyone that showed symptoms by sending them to this island. It is said that more than 160 000 human beings died there during these sad times. Fishermen are said to avoid the waters near the island because of the chance of catching human remains in their nets.

In 1922 a psychiatric hospital was built on the island but patients reported seeing ghosts and hearing terrible sounds and screams. The doctor tried to find the cause of these things by running strange experiments on the patients. But doctor himself got mad and died by jumping from building.
