Vijay Tendulkar, the leading marathi playwright, scriptwriter and social commentator passed away today morning in Pune. He was 80 and was suffering from a muscular disorder.
Vijay Tendulkar recieved the Padma Bhushan award, the Sangeet Natak Award and the National film award amongst many other awards in his career which spanned over 50 years. Tendulkar's well know plays include "Ghashiram Kotwal" and "Sakharam Binder".
Tendulkar wrote Shyam Benegal's Manthan for which he won the National film award in 1977. He also wrote the screenplays for other films like "Nishant", "Akrosh" and "Ardh Satya" which were critically acclaimed
In his writing career of more than 50 years, Vijay Tendulkar had written 27 full-length plays and 25 one-act plays. Many of his plays went ahead to be Marathi theater classics. His plays have been translated and performed in many Indian languages.

Sourav Ganguly, Shane Warne fined for violating Code of Conduct
Sourav Ganguly and Shane Warne were fined 10% of their match fee under Clause 1.3 of IPL for violating code of conduct. The fine was precipative action taken by the IPL after yesterdays match between Kolkata knightriders and Rajasthan Royals. Warne said Sourav Ganguly disregarded the spirit of cricket after he refused to walk for a catch which was claimed by Warne's Rajasthan Royals team player Graeme Smith.
Sourav said Shane Warne should look at it himself before telling Ganguly that he has violated the spirit of cricket. Umpire GA Pratapkumar was suspended for one match.
Nirmala Deshpande passes away
Dr. Nirmala Deshpande, member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) has passed away on Thursday.She was 79 years old and was staying in Delhi. She was not well for last 4 days, and she died in her sleep early Thursday morning.
Deshpande had returned from Dhanbad on Tuesday & had some gastric problems. She was suffering from fever from last evening. Currently she was Rajya Sabha member. She has received Padma award in 2006.
